An open house to discuss improvements to Woodbury Drive will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Woodbury City Hall, 8301 Valley Creek Road. The meeting will be in the Birch Conference Room. There will be no formal presentation — attendees may come and go and ask questions as needed. The open house will allow residents to: • Learn about the project background, design process, schedule and next steps • Review existing conditions data and traffic analysis • Provide feedback and share ideas • Meet the design team

Washington County Parks will host a guided walk at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at Pine Point Regional Park, 11900 Norell Ave. N., Stillwater. If snow conditions allow, snowshoes can be used in addition to the hike. Dress for the weather and bring sturdy, waterproof boots. The program is free with a vehicle permit. When Gov. Mark Dayton and I took office in 2011, Minnesota faced a $6 billion shortfall, and the state's public schools had weathered more than a decade of inconsistent funding and even outright funding cuts. Graduation rates were stagnant, full-day kindergarten was only a dream, and public preschool options were limited or nonexistent.

More than 500 volunteers came together Dec. 9 at King of Kings Lutheran Church for Christmas Palooza. What started out as an idea from church staff four years ago has turned into a holiday staple. The event, entitled "A Party with a Purpose," allowed volunteers to rotate through workstations to complete service projects and help those in need. Throughout the two-hour event, volunteers assisted in a variety of ways, including: • Assembling 2,028 weekend food packs — the equivalent of 12,168 meals — for students in District 833 that are in need.
Washington, Dakota and Goodhue counties were included in an air-quality alert issued for Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 through 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. According to the alert:

Kyle's Eagle Scout project was designing and building a 12-foot-by-8-foot shelving unit for the St. Ambrose Early Childhood Center in Woodbury. Ryan's project consisted of designing and building three birdhouses and two butterfly houses now located behind the Health East Sports Center. The American Red Cross will hold the sixth-annual 12 Hours of Giving Blood Drive 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at Inwood Oaks, 484 Inwood Ave. N., Oakdale. It is Minnesota's largest, one-day Red Cross blood drive.
The first phase of the District 622 facilities master plan began this school year with the remodeling and additions at Castle Elementary School in Oakdale and Richardson Elementary School in North St. Paul.
