Former East Ridge coach Bryce Tesdahl accepts head coach position at Minnetonka
Former East Ridge boys basketball head coach Bryce Tesdahl has accepted a head coaching position with Minnetonka High School for the 2019-20 season, according to Tesdahl.
Tesdahl has coached the Raptors for the past two seasons and has established a culture that led East Ridge to a state tournament run last season. It was a hard decision for him, but he's thankful for the time and the memories as the Raptors coach.
"I can't thank the students, ERHS staff and faculty, parents and players enough for their support these last couple of years," Tesdahl said. "We did a lot of great things in this program and established a culture for East Ridge basketball."
In his first season, Tesdahl and the East Ridge team went 23-6. His second season was an improvement as the record increased to 28-4, while also winning a section title over Cretin-Derham Hall and advancing to the state tournament for the first time in program history.
The Raptors recorded their first win at state with a win against Eastview in the first round of the state tournament. East Ridge ended the 2018-19 season with a fourth-place finish at state.
Before his time at East Ridge, Tesdahl was the head coach for the New Prague boys basketball team and also had back-to-back 20-win seasons.
"These players bought into the culture and it allowed us to build a championship tradition at East Ridge," Tesdahl said. "My goal was to make the program better than what I found it."
Tesdahl will head to a Minnetonka team that finished the 2018-19 season with a 13-13 record. The Skippers lost to Eden Prairie in the first round of the section 2AAAA boys basketball tournament to end their season.
Tesdahl is excited about the opportunity to establish a culture at Minnetonka and instill the right values in hopes of continuing to build a strong basketball program.
"We're excited to be at Minnetonka and I'm looking forward to establishing a strong culture over there," Tesdahl said.
East Ridge activities director Sara Palodichuk commented on the news saying that she appreciates everything Tesdahl has done for the boys basketball program.
"He's an outstanding coach and did a lot to build a positive culture with our program," Palodichuk said.
The Raptors will be returning Kendall Brown and Ben Carlson, two highly ranked recruits, next season. East Ridge will start the process of hiring its next boys basketball head coach.
