The Woodbury boys golf team finally bagged its first competitive rounds of the shortened spring season. On May 6, the Royals played in the Don Saazter Invitational at Hastings Country Club. The Royals placed a respectable tie for 10th out of 21 teams posting a combined team score of 331. Senior captain Mike Myers carded an 81 for the low score for the squad with senior Thomas Swedenborg and junior Anthony Mahady coming in at 82 and freshman Justin Tschida carding an 86. On May 7, Woodbury played in the first Suburban East Conference event of the year, hosted by East Ridge at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury. The Royals tied for first place out of the 10 teams with a combined team score of 304, the lowest team total the Royals have scored several years. Again, Myers led the team, shooting an even par 72, while also earning overall medalist honors for low round of the day.

"It was a fun day," Myers said. "It was a pretty boring round which is the kind of golf my coach likes. It didn't feel like I really played all that well, but never really had any shots that got me into much trouble."

Myers said his short game was "solid" and he putted "pretty well." Myers had just 26 total putts, including eight one-putts.

"I definitely left some shots out there that I should have had including a couple lip-outs and two bogies," Myers said.

In addition to Myers, Tschida carded a 2-over-par 74, Mahady scored a 78 and Swedenborg had an 80.

"I like our team this season," Myers said. "It's a great group of guys and we're doing better at this point of the season than I thought we would have by now. It's been a lot of fun."
