The East Ridge girls' tennis team lost in the section 3AA championship this past Thursday, Oct. 12, to Eagan 5-2. Two days earlier they edged past Rosemount, winning 4-3 with the match coming down to the last doubles match. The Raptors are now in the midst of individual section play.

"We knew it (the match against Rosemount) was going to be close and come down to second or third doubles," head coach Jon Rydberg said.

The match was tied 3-3 until East Ridge was able to take second doubles courtesy of seniors Mary Purtell and Sailaja Bommareddy, who won 6-3, 6-7(1), 7-5.

"We have so much senior leadership that helps a ton," Rydberg said. "We have eight seniors who are very well poised to handle any situation."

Senior Megan Karrow won second singles 6-2, 6-1; junior Kailey Courteau took fourth doubles 6-1, 6-1; and then seniors Julia Travis and Minneh Song won first doubles 6-2, 6-3.

Senior Regan Dolezal fell in first singles 2-6, 1-6; fellow senior Jordyn Brown lost in third singles 5-7, 4-6; and the third doubles team of sophomore Abigail Marshall and freshman Anna Tokheim lost 6-7(2), 4-6.

The Raptors fell to Eagan 5-2. Their two wins came from Courteau in fourth singles 6-3, 7-5 and from the first doubles team of Travis/Song 2-6, 7-6(3), 10-7.

Dolezal lost first singles 0-6, 0-6; Karrow fell in second singles 2-6, 1-6 and Brown dropped third singles 0-6, 0-6. Purtell/Bommareddy lost in second doubles 2-6, 4-6 and Marshall and senior Molly Kammann fell in third doubles 3-6, 1-6.
