Woodbury needs 20 literacy and math tutors for the 2018-2019 school year, according to Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps. This is part of an AmeriCorps recruitment effort of approximately 1,400 literacy and 300 math tutors throughout the state.

Both full- and part-time tutors are being recruited to begin a year of paid service this fall. Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps are statewide initiatives to help students become a successful reader by the end of third grade, and proficient in math by the end of eighth grade.

Woodbury sites that have been awarded tutor positions are:

• Brookview Elementary

• Gordon Bailey Elementary

• Middleton Elementary

• Peace of Mind Early Education Center

• Royal Oaks Elementary

• Valley Crossing Elementary

• Woodbury Elementary

Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps tutors commit to 11 months of service, during which they earn a biweekly living allowance of $597 (full-time) and an education award of up to $5,920 to help pay for further education. Full-time tutors also receive health insurance. Tutors are fully trained by Math Corps and Reading Corps.
