City approves contract with county for new radio system

The Woodbury City Council voted 4-0 March 11 to adopt an agreement with Washington County to contract its public safety radio system services.

Washington County recently went online with its upgraded 800 megahertz radio system, which officials said will substantially improve public safety communications.

This system is a multi-site wireless communications system designed to provide, among other things, 95 percent indoor coverage reliability for portable radio operations throughout most of the county, according to a staff report by Mike Richardson, Woodbury fire services manager.

The system will allow the public safety department to access to the nine-county region public safety radio system with multiple system redundancy and 24 hour a day system monitoring, Richardson wrote.

The county installed the last of its 14 towering operating sites for the system earlier this year in Afton. The 800 megahertz radio system went online throughout the county on March 2.
