Local Rotary and Boychoir at Rotary International Convention

Often described as a "mini-United Nations" because of its international and cultural diversity, 20,000 visitors from more than 140 countries attended Rotary International's annual convention held in June in Los Angeles, Calif. The annual convention gives members of the 103-year-old volunteer service group the opportunity to share success stories, exchange ideas, and renew acquaintances.

The Rotary Club of Woodbury had three members in attendance and provided the opportunity for 52 of the 120 boys from the Minnesota Boychoir to perform on two different occasions during the four-day event. "This event is an amazing gathering of service minded folks from all over the world who come together annually to find ways to change the world as well as its local communities," said Tanya Mayer, Woodbury Rotarian and mother of Michael Mayer, one of the Boychoir members. "The opportunity for the choir was amazing and showcased the talent of these local boys on an international stage."

The Rotary Club of Woodbury serves the community of South Washington County including Cottage Grove, Newport and St. Paul Park. All individuals interested in finding out more about Rotary are invited to attend any Rotary breakfast meeting held Thursday mornings from 7 to 8:15 a.m. at the lower level Stonecrest Café at "Stonecrest," 8725 Promenade Lane in Woodbury.
