Former radio host Dubay charged with assaulting woman in Cottage Grove

Jeff Dubay

Former Twin Cities sports radio host Jeffery Dubay is accused of repeatedly punching a woman and knocking out her tooth during an assault in Cottage Grove.

Dubay, 49, is charged with felony third-degree assault in Washington County District Court in connection with the Aug. 2 incident. He claimed in a Facebook post he was wrongfully accused.

According to the criminal complaint:

Cottage Grove police were called for a reported domestic assault at a home in the 8000 block of Jensen Avenue. A woman in a vehicle flagged down police and told them another woman needed help because she was being assaulted by Dubay in the basement at 8090 Jensen Ave.

The alleged victim walked out of the house with blood dripping from her mouth and a large bump around her eye. She was missing a tooth, which was later found.

The woman told police Dubay lived in her basement. She said they had sexual relations in the past and it upset her when Dubay brought other women to the house. The woman said Dubay had another woman in her bedroom that day and she asked him to have her leave.

Dubay allegedly became angry and shoved her to the ground. While she was on the floor he punched her several times in the face, hitting her above her left eye, and a punch knocked out her front tooth, according to the complaint.

Dubay was arrested outside the home. Police found signs of a struggle in the basement, including blood on the floor, a broken baby gate and a bent broom handle. The alleged victim said Dubay previously had assaulted her and threatened to kill her.

Dubay claimed the alleged victim actually was the aggressor.

Dubay was arrested outside the home and booked at the Washington County jail. He was released from jail on Aug. 9 after posting $30,000 bail.

In a post on his Facebook page, Dubay claimed he was "recently wrongfully accused of assault."

"You are likely to hear details that are not true and will be refuted by the only eyewitness," Dubay wrote. "Be assured I will appear in court and defend vigorously, as I am absolutely not guilty of the charges."

The next court hearing in the assault case is set for Nov. 15.

In August 2016, Dubay was sentenced for methamphetamine possession in Cottage Grove.

Dubay was a popular co-host on KFAN radio before he was fired in 2008 following an arrest for possessing cocaine. He later was hired on 1500 ESPN but then let go in 2014.
