LMS principal: Trebesch's death a 'significant loss'

The Lake Middle School and East Ridge families are mourning the loss of a 13-year-old student who died Tuesday.

According to a statement from District 833, eighth grader Allison Trebesch died. Trebesch was a diver on the East Ridge High School swimming and diving team and had reached the state meet last year in gymnastics for Woodbury High School.

“We extend our sincere sympathies to Allison’s family and many friends,” Superintendent Keith Jacobus said in the statement. “We are doing everything we can to support our students and staff at this very difficult time.”

The circumstances surrounding Trebesch's death were not immediately made public.

Woodbury Public Safety Public Information officer Michelle Okada said the death was not suspicious and that the department is awaiting results from an autopsy. She said the initial call came in at 5:51 a.m. Tuesday as a medical in the 2600 block of Queensport Road.

District 833 Communications Director Barb Brown said additional staff and community support was deployed Wednesday at LMS. Offering assistance are members of the district's mental health team, local youth pastors, Canvas Health staff and Youth Services Bureau staff.

Lake Middle School Principal Molly Roeske sent a public email that included information for parents to help children cope with the loss.

"It has been a very difficult time for our students and staff as we work through the significant loss we are experiencing at Lake Middle School," Roeske wrote in the email.

In addition to successes as a diver for East Ridge, Trebesch was a rising star in the Woodbury gymnastics community. She earned 21st place overall in the vault during the 2012-13 state high school gymnastics meet held in February. She was one of only three seventh graders to compete in the Class AA state meet.

Trebesch's mother, Julie Dornseif, was also her coach at Woodbury.

Trebesch had advanced to the meet the day after her 13th birthday by finishing third at the Section 3AA championship with her highest score ever on vault. She was the first gymnast to reach state during Dornseif's tenure.
