Woodbury grads sail around the world

Andrew French and Gavin Bradley, both 2017 graduates of Woodbury High School, were assigned to the Liberty, a U.S. Merchant Ship in Japan. By September, they sailed completely around the world! WOODBURY — Woodbury High School graduates and Marine Academy Midshipmen Gavin Bradley and Andrew French recently completed a journey around the world by ship.

In June 2018, shortly after completing their freshman year at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the pair were assigned to the Liberty, a U.S. Merchant Ship in Japan. As part of their Year At Sea, they sailed from Japan through the Panama Canal to the United States, and then to Puerto Rico, around Cape Horn in Africa Africa to Singapore and back to Japan. Their ship is scheduled to return to the United States via the Panama Canal where the pair hope to return to Minnesota for a few days of leave in Minnesota before returning to the Academy for Winter term.

In August, Bradley was awarded the Academic Gold Star by the Academy. A Gold Star is awarded for a quarterly grade point average of 3.50 and above. He and French were co-captains of the Woodbury High School wrestling team and are now teammates on the USMMA wrestling team.
