Woodwinds Health Campus tackles hunger, shoes
The Woodwinds Health Campus Green Team — a band of environmentally conscious individuals — recently partnered with Good in the Hood's Shoe Away Hunger program and took on shoe recycling. Not only does the program repurpose shoes, which keeps them out of landfills, but it also feeds people in need.
Members from the Green Team decorated and distributed collection boxes across 15 departments at Woodwinds Health Campus and encouraged staff to donate gently-used shoes. The shoes were then sold by Good in the Hood volunteers. The money raised from the sales funded hunger relief programs. One pair of donated shoes bought seven days' worth of essential groceries for a person in need.
