Allina Health announces restricted visitor guidelines for all hospitals Starting this month, Allina Health will implement restricted visitor guidelines to protect patients and staff due to influenza. The guidelines are: • Children under the age of 5 are asked not to visit patients. • Visitors to Mom Baby/Birth Center units may be screened for wellness and children under 5 will be screened for wellness before visiting. • Visitors who are sick should refrain from visiting patients in the hospital.
The Park girls' hockey team started 2018 with a victory over White Bear Lake at home on Saturday, Jan. 6. The Wolfpack scored twice in the second period and held on for a 3-2 victory. Heather Degler, Adie Stienke and Tori Michaud each scored once for the Wolfpack. Park is 7-8-1 this season and 4-4-1 in the Suburban East Conference.
The East Ridge boys' hockey team went 1-1 last week, dropping a 3-0 game against Cretin-Derham Hall but winning 4-0 against Mounds View. Marco Troje, Jack McVey, Tanner Stafne and Tyler Johnson each scored goals in the road win against Mounds View on Saturday, Jan. 6. Tomy Ogren made 19 saves in the shutout victory. East Ridge holds a record of 5-7 this season.

J.C. Hassenauer was awarded the Pat Trammel award — the most prestigious honor given to a senior football player — at the most recent University of Alabama football banquet. Hassenauer graduated from East Ridge in 2014 and is a senior playing football at Alabama. The award is given to a senior player who has reflected qualities of integrity, character, importance of academics, and inspirational leadership at the University of Alabama football program. Man who attacked, robbed older couple in their home gets almost 20 years ST. PAUL—He arrived wearing a white hard hat and a bright orange traffic vest. He attacked the couple at their home and robbed them. Then he left in his white Cadillac. Now, Nathaniel Jackson is getting more than 18 years in prison for two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery and one count of first-degree burglary and assault of a person. The 60-year-old St. Paul man has 10 aliases and several prior felony convictions.
Statewide DFL environmental caucus endorses Otto for governor ST. PAUL—The Minnesota DFL Environmental Caucus said Tuesday that they have endorsed State Auditor Rebecca Otto in the crowded race for the 2018 DFL gubernatorial endorsement. The caucus is made up of about 400 members from across the state who are trying to promote an environmental protection agenda among the state's Democrats.
The Woodbury Predators girls' 12A team took first place in the Woodbury Sweetheart Classic this past weekend. The Woodbury team defeated Eastview 3-1, Stillwater 3-0 and North Wright County 2-0 in pool play. The Predators then went on to beat Champlain Park/Coon Rapids 6-0 in the semifinal game. In the championship, Woodbury defeated Stillwater 3-2 in overtime after coming back to tie the game with a goal in the third period.
Woman, 69, dies in St. Paul house fire ST. PAUL—A 69-year-old woman who was a mother and grandmother died early Thursday after a fire in her home on St. Paul's East Side, according to the fire department. A neighbor was alerted to the blaze by his barking dog about 1:45 a.m., said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gaede. He called 911. Responding firefighters saw "a significant amount of fire coming out of the windows on two sides of the house," according to a statement from the St. Paul fire department.
