East Ridge’s coaches will tell you they’re a deep team full of talented players far beyond the starting five — and they are. However, make no mistake, much of the Raptors’ success in 2013-14 lay in the hands of seniors Jake Knupp and Ryan Keenan.
The East Ridge girls basketball team needs to replace five seniors, but brings back its best player this winter.
The New Life Academy boys basketball team enters 2013-14 off of a 12-16 season a year ago. The Eagles went 6-7 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association last winter.
East Ridge took significant steps forward last season but that hasn’t left players and coaches completely satisfied.
The 2013 state meet was bittersweet for four East Ridge seniors. Lindsey Lewis, Maddy Peters, Meredith Ubel and Taylor Johnson swam their final high school meet on the state’s biggest stage – the 2013 Class AA state meet, held Nov. 18-20 at the University of Minnesota.
East Ridge senior offensive lineman J.C. Hassenauer was presented his honorary game jersey during the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2014 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game at East Ridge High School on Wednesday. The event was part of the three-month American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the Under Armour All-America Game.
Bradley University junior guard Michelle Young , a Woodbury High School graduate, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week and the MVC Player of the Week last week. Young scored a career-best 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting in Bradley’s victory against Illinois last Friday. She also added six rebounds, four assists, one block and a pair of steals. Her 32 points tied for the eighth highest scoring output in school history and were the most by a Bradley player in a home game since 2004.
Woodbury Royals Booster Club selling Christmas trees Starting Friday, Nov. 29 and running through Dec. 15, the Royals Booster Club will be selling Fraser Fir trees to raise money for students participating in activities and athletics at Woodbury High School. The lot, located at Woodbury High School, will sell only the highest rated trees, meaning the softest, longest lasting needles and picture perfect pyramid shape. The trees sold at this tree lot were grown locally by B&J Evergreen in Clear Lake. Tree lot hours of operation are weekends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Starting in 2014, the Minnesota United FC will have a new reserve team joining the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in 2014, named the Minnesota United Reserves, which will play at East Ridge High School.
