At its most recent meet, the Woodbury Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA) gymnastics team honored Allison Trebesch , who died Sept. 17. Trebesch had competed for the Woodbury MAGA team and her mother Julie Dornseif is the team’s head coach. “She was a gifted gymnast known for her dedication and strong work ethic, grace and beauty,” said Christy Walker, whose daughter was a friend and teammate of Trebesch’s. “She was a joy to watch perform and the gym was a second home to Ally.

The Woodbury boys swimming and diving team is sending three swimmers and divers to the 2014 Class AA state meet. The top two finishers in each race at sections reach state meet along with anyone who beats the state cut time. Woodbury sophomore Will Ho is returning to the state meet for a second-straight year.

The Woodbury girls basketball team lost 68-59 to Minneapolis Southwest and fell 61-44 to No. 4-ranked White Bear Lake in the Suburban East Conference last week. The losses were the fifth and sixth in a row for Woodbury, which is now 1-17 since Dec. 20, after starting the year 5-1. Woodbury (6-18; 2-14 SEC) kept things close with White Bear Lake in the first half and found itself down only 29-21. But, the Bears (22-2; 14-2 SEC) pulled away in the second half for the 17-point win. Woodbury freshman forward Cecile Kieger led the way for the youthful Royals with a team-high 12 points.
The East Ridge girls basketball team went 2-1 in three games last week to improve to 17-7 overall on the year with two games remaining. East Ridge lost 61-52 to Suburban East Conference foe Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 18, before turning it around to beat conference opponent Stillwater 60-54 at home on Friday, Feb. 21 and winning 56-32 over Hudson, Wis., in a non-conference game at The Perch at East Ridge High School on Saturday, Feb.
The individual portion of the Section 4AAA wretling tournament, set for tonight (Friday, Feb. 21) at Eagan has been postponed due to weather and road conditions. Park and East Ridge are in Section 4AAA. The tournament will now begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb.

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill will be making a visit to East Ridge High School. On Monday, Feb. 24, Kill will speak to the East Ridge coaching staff and members of the student captains council on the topic of leadership. Kill will kick off the morning speaking to the entire East Ridge coaching staff, then will meet with the captains council. Kill was named head coach of the University of Minnesota football program on Dec. 7, 2010. Next fall, Kill will begin his fourth year at Minnesota and 21st overall of being a head college football coach.
