ST. PAUL — A state highway that stretches from Minnetonka to Inver Grove Heights has an identity crisis. It's Minnesota 62 from Interstate 494 in Minnetonka to just west of Fort Snelling, when it becomes Minnesota 55. Across the Minnesota River in Mendota Heights, its name changes yet again: to Minnesota 110, which ends at Interstate 494 in Inver Grove Heights.
LAKE ELMO, Minn. — Thomas Hilpisch wasn't scheduled to work as a St. Paul firefighter on Saturday morning, so he was doing yard work at his Lake Elmo home. At about 11 a.m., while driving a skid-steer loader, Hilpisch looked up and saw a man in his front yard frantically waving his arms, trying to flag him down. The man, who was wearing sunglasses and had a drawstring bag on his back, approached him. "I was like, 'What the heck? Who is this guy?' " Hilpisch recalled. " 'What does this guy want?'"
MANKATO, Minn. — The Vikings made it official Tuesday: They’ll be leaving Mankato and moving training camp to Eagan starting in 2018. The team announced July 18 what many fans considered was inevitable. Beginning next summer, camp will be held at its sparkling new state-of-the-art practice facility under construction in Eagan. “We’re excited about the next step in our franchise,” said Kevin Warren, the team’s chief operating officer.
