A Cottage Grove man faces seven felony charges of child pornography possession after Cottage Grove police allegedly discovered hundreds of videos and photos at his home three years ago. The FBI and Minneapolis division of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension notified Cottage Grove Police in 2014 that an IP address belonging to Randy Carl Rappe, 66, was connected to more than 40 images depicting child pornography on a filesharing network, according to a criminal complaint filed in Washington County in April.
More than 500 National Guard soldiers will start training for a yearlong deployment to southwest Asia starting fall 2018 following a preliminary announcement Monday, Aug. 14. Among the soldiers are 14 from Rosemount, 12 from Farmington, nine from Woodbury and two from Red Wing. Lt. Col. Jeff Ulrick, a Farmington resident who commands the Rosemount-based 34th Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, broke the news to soldiers assigned there Sunday, Aug. 13.

A 62-year-old Woodbury woman reported at 12:40 p.m. July 20 that her neighbor, a 51-year-old man, rubbed his genitals against her while she was gardening outside her home. A 37-year-old Woodbury woman called police July 22 to report an attempted rape. She told police that a Woodbury cab driver sexually assaulted her. A New Hope man accused of fatally shooting a Maplewood woman at her Mendota Heights workplace is in custody after evading authorities for three days, Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie said. Lucifer Vincent Nguyen, 44, was arrested late Monday, July 31, in Blaine. He faces Dakota County charges of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, first-degree burglary and kidnapping.
The brother of a man acquitted in the highly publicized 1992 disappearance of a 5-year-old Inver Grove Heights girl faces 18 months in prison and 15 years of probation following conviction for sex crimes involving a minor in his care. A Washington County court sentenced Jerry Guevara Jr., 53, Woodbury, Monday, July 31, on two felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges stemming from a nearly 15-year sexual relationship that led to the birth of six children. The mother would have been 16 when the first child was born.
A motorist crashed her car in a southeastern Cottage Grove ditch in the early hours of Sunday, July 30 after allegedly leading police in a vehicle chase with speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. Police identified the driver as Jacqueline Mazzitello, 39 of Cottage Grove. She was booked in Washington County jail on pending charges of felony fleeing police in a vehicle, fourth-degree DWI and driving with revoked license.
