COTTAGE GROVE — Police are investigating a bank robbery that took place at TCF Bank, 7155 East Point Douglas Road, around 4 p.m. this afternoon. An unknown male suspect fled before police arrived. Police said there is limited information at this time, but are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video.

South Washington County Crime rates were down last year across Minnesota and Washington County, though state statistics showed increased crime in south Washington County cities. All area cities except St. Paul Park reported a higher overall crime rate, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's annual report. The crime rate describes the number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants of an area. The 2015 crime rate for Cottage Grove was 6,092; 7,999 for St. Paul Park; 10,723 for Newport and 5,237 for Woodbury.
Cottage Grove Andy Hatch has been writing for 30 of his 43 years in Cottage Grove.
