ST. PAUL — The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is coming to Minnesota next week. He will be joined by Kimberly Guilfoyle, chair of the pro-Trump political action group America First, to headline a fundraiser for the state’s Republican Party. Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan said the visit shows how important the White House thinks Minnesota is for the midterm elections.

PAUL -- Minnesota’s Department of Human Services is offering training for anyone wanting to use the overdose reversal drug Naloxone and is also making an effort to allow easier access to the medication called buprenorphine that is highly effective in helping people get off and stay off opioids. Department Commissioner Emily Piper said the opioid crisis continues to take a heavy toll.
ST. PAUL -- Cher will be on a nationwide tour with two stops in the Upper Midwest in May of 2019, it was announced Friday, Sept. 7. The 72-year-old singer and actress will be on her first tour across the country in five years. Her tour will start in Florida next January and end with appearances in Sioux Falls at the Denny Sanford Premier Center on Thursday, May 16, and at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Saturday, May 18.
ST. PAUL — Retiring Minnesota state government reporter Don Davis will be remembered by politicians and colleagues for one thing above else: greater Minnesota. In interview after interview, his co-workers and politicians said Davis, who started working at the state Capitol for Forum Communications Co. in 2001, was the one in the Capitol press corps with the knowledge of life outside of the Twin Cities and the one to ask questions about how state government decisions would affect residents there.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesota’s health insurance exchange, MNsure, announced the dates for Minnesotans to shop for 2019 health coverage. Open enrollment will begin on Nov. 1 and run through Jan. 13, 2019. This is nearly a month longer than the federal open enrollment period that runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15. As a state-based marketplace, MNsure has authority to add a special enrollment period to give Minnesotans more time to shop.
ST. PAUL --Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has announced he plans to skip early June’s Republican state convention and go straight to the Aug.14 primary, drawing sharp criticism from another GOP candidate in the race and the Democratic party. Pawlenty’s decision means he won’t be seeking the party’s endorsement. In a statement Tuesday, his campaign said the two-term governor entered the race too late for to have a “fair fight” for the endorsement.
EDEN VALLEY, Minn.—Anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 mink are on the loose in Stearns County in central Minnesota after burglars entered a mink farm, cut a fence and opened cages to let them free. The incident happened sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, and 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, on Lang Farms LLC about 2.5 miles northwest of Eden Valley. That's about 30 miles southwest of St. Cloud.
NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- This little piggy won’t go to market. A 250-pound pig who jumped off a truck at 70 mph on the way to a Sioux Falls, S.D., slaughterhouse and survived in now living at a farm sanctuary northeast of the Twin Cities, where the caretaker says “Wally” is an “amazing pig.”
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— It was a little bit better of a day Sunday when a dog was found in the rubble of a downtown, 100-year-old Sioux Falls building that collapsed on Friday morning. City Emergency Manager Regan Smith said not only was the young woman who was in an upstairs apartment and rescued from the debris on Friday released from the hospital, but the last of her three dogs was also found underneath a mattress. The beagle belonging to Emily Fodness was found when rescue workers heard a faint noise or bark in the building on Sunday.
