Tierney Wolfgram of Math and Science Academy cemented herself in Minnesota prep cross-country history Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Olaf College, site of the 2017 Class A and AA state cross-country meet. Wolfgram won her second Class A state championship in a row — and she's only a freshman.
Both the north and south-bound lanes of Highway 61 are partially blocked as of 3:30 p.m. due to a crash. A semi-truck crashed into a median on Highway 61, just before the stoplight next to the Holiday gas station. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and other services were on scene.
The East Ridge girls' tennis team lost in the section 3AA championship this past Thursday, Oct. 12, to Eagan 5-2. Two days earlier they edged past Rosemount, winning 4-3 with the match coming down to the last doubles match. The Raptors are now in the midst of individual section play. Rosemount "We knew it (the match against Rosemount) was going to be close and come down to second or third doubles," head coach Jon Rydberg said.
The Woodbury boys' soccer team had not advanced out of the section quarterfinals in years and head coach Joe Quintavalle said doing that was this year's goal, no matter who the Royals played. The Royals achieved that goal and then some as they shut out Hastings 8-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and then edged crosstown rival East Ridge 1-0 on Thursday, Oct. 12, to advance to the section finals against top-seeded Stillwater.
Afton Alps held its inaugural "Brewers Battle" downhill ski race and ski-bike extravaganza Saturday, Jan. 7, in Afton. In an effort to raise awareness for pediatric cancer, Afton Alps organized a ski race between 10 breweries from Minnesota and the Midwest, the prize being a tap-line at Afton Alps for an entire year.
