Denny Larson, 65, has coached the 'Bolts the past 15 seasons. He had heart surgery a year ago, but that didn't stop him from coaching the south Washington Thunderbolts adapted soccer and softball teams this past season - leading the latter to the state tournament last week.

In their 12th state appearance, but first since 2007, the Thunderbolts adapted softball team earned fourth place in the 2012 Minnesota State High School League state adapted softball tournament, CI Division, in Coon Rapids.

The New Life Academy softball team earned a seventh straight trip to the state tournament, beating 10th-ranked Minneapolis Washburn 5-3 for the Section 4A championship on Tuesday, May 29, at Hamline University.
