Our View: Remembering fallen soldiers one year later
One year ago this week a young man from this community was killed in Iraq while serving his country. Daniel P. Drevnick died July 16, 2009 when the Army base he was working at in the southern province of Basra was attacked by indirect fire from insurgents. He was 22 years old.

Our View: State Farm should act 'like a good neighbor' and market site to buyer who would use its building
A municipal sign welcoming travelers into Woodbury sits on the east side of Radio Drive just south of I-94. Behind the sign is a spacious 95-acre property and a nearly 500,000-square-foot building that has been essentially empty and unused for nearly five years. It once held more...

Our View: Transparency on potential conflicts of interest an encouraging sign
Being a city council member can be a tough job. Especially when it comes to development issues. And even more so when such development issues may pose a potential conflict of interest for a council member faced with a decision of whether to approve a proposed development. That's...

Our View: Memorial Day is our duty to remember
What if everyone reading this were to hold off on the barbecue for a few hours, take a break from cutting the grass or push back a day at the beach to attend the Memorial Day ceremony in Woodbury this coming Monday? No doubt that for many busy families Memorial Day is a rare weekday...

Our View: Police put their lives on the line every time they clock in
How do they do it? That's a question many of us may have asked ourselves over the last month as we've read or heard about three concrete examples of area police officers risking their lives in the line of duty. On Saturday a Maplewood police officer was shot and killed while responding...

OUR VIEW: Consider even-year school board elections, wards
There was an election last Tuesday, and very few people showed up for it -- 6.3 percent of registered voters to be exact. Don't worry, even if you didn't show up you were still part of the election because you paid for it. The election cost the district about $27,500, an amount...

Our View: New high school means new opportunities
Kudos to schools, fans for great start to rivalry You couldn't have asked for a better setting Friday night at the Raptors' Nest. A crystal clear sky, balmy temperature and a bulbous orange moon rising in the eastern sky framed the picture of two intra-city high school football...

Viewpoint: Editorials about newspapers were out of touch
I realize Fargo is not in Minnesota, but it's not exactly in China, either. So it seems that Mr. William Marcil, publisher and CEO of Forum Communications (based in Fargo, N.D. and which owns the Woodbury Bulletin along with two dozen other Minnesota newspapers, plus papers in the...

Minnesotans don't need another tax
There are at least two problems with a Nov. 4 Minnesota ballot measure that would impose a state sales tax by amending the state Constitution. First, tax policy should be done by the Legislature. Second, a dedicated tax that would add $11 billion to Minnesotans' sales tax bill...
