Royals hockey takes off 2-0 to start season

The Royals kicked off the 2011-12 season in convincing fashion, compiling six goals in two games to win the annual Thanksgiving tournament at Bielenberg Sports Center.

Woodbury topped Chisago Lakes 3-0 on Saturday after defeating Coon Rapids 3-1 on Friday.

Senior forward Chase Myers-Beck scored two goals and one assist against Chisago Lakes. Fellow senior Evan Erickson recorded one goal and one assist in the game, while freshman defenseman Hayden Shaw scored two points on two assists.

Woodbury goaltender Josh Erickson stopped all 11 shots he faced. Woodbury dominated the shots-on-goal ratio by a 4:1 margin.

Against Coon Rapids, Evan Erickson recorded three points on two assists and a goal. Shaw and senior Tyler Tuneberg both scored unassisted goals.

Erickson stopped 25 of 26 shots; the Royals out-shot Coon Rapids 29-26 on the game.

Up next for the Royals is a 7:30 p.m. home game Thursday against Prior Lake.
