It was a record-setting kind of day for the Woodbury girl’s relay sprinters.

First, the 4x100-meter relay of junior Taylor Lundin, senior Grace Rogers, sophomore Taylor Raines and senior Aleah West set a Section 4AA meet record with a time of 48.67 seconds.

Then, as an encore, the 4x200-meter relay made up of Rogers, Raines, West and Gina Versaguis set a meet record by finishing in 1:42.44.

The two relay performances helped spark the Royals’ girl’s track and field team to a third-place finish at the section meet last week in Stillwater. Woodbury finished with 104 points, just 10 points behind second-place Roseville.

Raines shined in a multitude of other events on top of her relay heroics. She also qualified for this week’s state meet at Hamline University in the long jump and the triple jump. Maria Versaguis qualified for state in the 100-meter hurdles, where she won the section title by finishing with a time of 15.29 seconds.

There was some relay success on the men’s side, as well.

Seniors Steven Jessen-Howard, Nathan Orf, Taylor Voit and junior Nicholas Wareham combined to qualify for the state meet in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:55.65.

The Woodbury boys were excellent in the jumping pits at sectionals. Sophomore Mason Roomes qualified for state by finishing second in both the triple jump and the long jump, while senior Ladi Lawal took him the section title in the triple jump, while finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.49 seconds to advance to state in that, to boot.
