Woodbury track: Royals’ boys race to fourth in SEC meet
The Woodbury boys finished in a tie for fourth place while the Royals’ girls raced to sixth place last week at the Suburban East Conference track and field meet.
The Woodbury boys were led by senior Ladi Lawal, who took first in the triple jump event. He also finished in third place in the 110-meter, the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump events.
Other strong finishers for Woodbury boys included the 4x800 relay team comprised of Steven Jessen-Howard, Jeremy Storvick, Nathan Orf and Taylor Voit, which finished third. Nick Wareham finished fifth of 31 runners in the 1600-meter run, while Steven Bunch finished fifth of 40 competitors in the discus event, while teammate Isaiah Danielson finished in sixth.
Sophomore Mason Roomes jumped to fourth place in the long jump.
On the girls’ side, senior Grace Rogers was edged by 0.25 inches for first place in the long jump by East Ridge’s Allyson Weiss. Rogers finished second with a jump of 17-06.00.
Also finishing strong for the Woodbury girls were senior Aleah West in the 100-meter dash, where she finished in third place. The 4x200 relay team of Gina Versaguis, Taylor Raines, Grace Rogers and West finished in second – just 0.10 behind the winning Mounds View team.
In the 4x100 relay, Woodbury team of Taylor Lundin, Rogers, Raines and West finished second to Mounds View. Raines also took second in the triple jump.
The Royals will compete on Thursday in the Section 4AA track meet at Stillwater.
