Woodbury girls hockey: Royals down Western Wisconsin Stars 6-0

Can the Woodbury Royals claim to be better than the best girls hockey team in Wisconsin?

Maybe, based on their opponent and what they did.

The Royals rolled past the Western Wisconsin Stars 6-0 on Thursday, Dec. 19 at Bielenberg Ice Arena. The Stars had recently downed Wisconsin defending state champion Hayward, 4-3 on Dec. 10.

Kayla Falconer scored a hat trick for the Royals. Her first goal put the Royals up 2-0 in the first period, and her last two cushioned a big lead in the third period. Erin Goodell and Skye Shock each assisted on one of Falconer’s goals.

Ashley Krinke started the scoring for the Royals with an unassisted goal. She and Sara Wahlin assisted on Cassy Morris’ goal for a 3-0 lead in the second period.

Kim Taplin put the Royals up 4-0 in the third period when she found the net unassisted. Allison Beix picked up the win in goal and the shut out.

The Royals rebounded from a 7-1 loss to Stillwater on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Wahlin had the lone goal in that game on a power play, assisted by Ashley Krinke and Libby Majerle. It had cut the Ponies lead to 2-1, but the Ponies scored five unanswered goals.

That loss dropped the Royals to 1-7 in the Suburban East Conference. They will return to action in the new year against Cretin-Derham Hall on Jan. 4. The Royals (6-9, 1-7 SEC) lost their season opener to the Raiders (8-4, 6-2 SEC) on Nov. 9.
