East Ridge girls hockey: Raptors hot streak cooled by Mounds View, Forest Lake

Coming off a three-game win streak, the East Ridge girls hockey team dropped two crucial Suburban East Conference games last week, dropping them out of a tie for third in the conference into fifth place.

On Tuesday night the Raptors took on conference leader and No. 3-ranked Mounds View at the National Sports Center in Blaine and lost 3-1.

East Ridge (9-11-1; 7-6-1 SEC) was outshot and out hustled the entire evening, but allowed just the three Mounds View goals on 37 shots behind a great effort from senior goalie Katie Ahmann.

Penalties hurt the East Ridge squad all night, but it wasn't how many times they offended - just three penalties throughout the game - but instead what Mounds View did with the power plays, scoring two of its goals with an extra player on the ice.

Scoring the lone goal for East Ridge in the loss was senior Katelyn Bergloff at the midway point of the second period, tying the game.

Mounds View (20-0-1; 13-0-1 SEC) was able to score its second goal of the game with just 1 second left on the clock at the end of the second period.

On Saturday, East Ridge traveled to Forest Lake to take on the Rangers, and again, opportunities seized by the opponents led to the Raptors' undoing.

Despite outshooting Forest Lake 36-12, East Ridge was unable to find the back of the net, and Forest Lake was able to capitalize on two Raptors penalties, scoring its first two goals on power plays.

Forest Lake (11-8-2; 5-8-1 SEC) then scored its third goal just 15 seconds after its second.

The Raptors faced off with rival Woodbury (5-14-2; 1-11-2 SEC) on Tuesday after the Bulletin went to print. Next, East Ridge welcomes 10th-ranked Roseville to Bielenberg Ice Arena. The Raptors fell 4-2 to the Raiders (14-6; 10-3 SEC) earlier this season.
