East Ridge volleyball: Raptors beat Stillwater in regular-season finale

The East Ridge volleyball team won its last regular season game of the 2012 season, beating Suburban East Conference and section foe Stillwater at Stillwater last Tuesday night.

The East Ridge Raptors defeated Stillwater 3-2. The Raptors won 27-25, 15-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12. The victory gave East Ridge a 7-2 conference record, which helps their overall seed in playoffs.

As a team, the Raptors recorded 45 digs, with junior Makayla Sauro leading the team with 24. Sophomore Savannah Lipps had 15, and senior Margaret Eggert and junior Maddie Christenson each had 13.

Senior Tess Kelzenberg led the team with 45 assists, along her teammates to perform where they were needed to seal the victory.

Eggert outpaced her teammates by more than double with 24 kills, followed by sophomore Claire Whitman with 10 and then Christenson with 9.

The coaching staff said they were pleased with the way the team was able to end the season strong.

The Raptors take on White Bear Lake at home in the first round of sectional play Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
