After riding high all season, the East Ridge girls alpine ski team advanced Wednesday to the state alpine ski meet.

The girls team team finished second in Section 4A competition -- a top-two place good enough to earn the state berth -- held at Wild Mountain. Minneapolis Southwest took first in the girls team competition.

Members of the Park-Woodbury-East Ridge team also will be sending several racers to state.

They include East Ridge junior Elizabeth Koprucki, who won the overall Section 4A title -- her second section championship in as many years.

Also qualifying for state was Jack Midtlien, the eighth grader racing for East Ridge who makes his first appearance at state. Raptors junior Morgan Maxwell punched her card to state with a 10th-place overall finish.

Also appearing for the first time at state are Woodbury High School senior captains Sarah Niederhofer and Brittany Roth.

The Woodbury girls finished seventh overall in the 20-team field. The Park girls finished 10th at the meet.

The East Ridge boys missed a state berth by a hair, finishing one point back of second-place Eagan, 402-401. Stillwater took first in the boys event.

The Woodbury boys mustered a 10th-place finish in the 20-team race. Park boys racers finished 14th at the event.

The state meet is Feb. 15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minn.
