Eastlund, Drtina qualify for State

Woodbury's Brock Eastlund and East Ridge's Tom Drtina have qualified for the State Nordic Ski Meet next week with standout showings at the Section 4 meet on Wednesday afternoon at Battle Creek Park in Maplewood.

Eastlund placed eighth with a pursuit time of 29 minutes, 43 seconds. The pursuit time is a combined result for both classic (15:42) and freestyle (14:01) results.

Drtina took 12th in a pursuit time of 30:15 (15:31 in the classical, 14:44 in the freestyle) becoming the first Nordic skier for East Ridge to qualify for State.

The brothers Aren and Jacob Siekmeier from Math and Science Academy came in 35th and 36th, respectively, with Aren earning a pursuit time of 33:24 and Jacob taking a combined result of 33:25.

Woodbury's Bjorn Natwick took 37th with a combined time of 33:42, with East Ridge's Eric Jorgensen in 46th in 36:45.

Woodbury placed seventh in the team standings with 253 points, with MSA taking ninth with 223 points and East Ridge coming in 10th with 184 points.

Girls Nordic Results

Mara Stewart and Natalie Lugg of the Woodbury girls Nordic ski team took 16th and 17th with times of 35:37 and 36:05, respectively, just missing the State-qualifying cut.

Hannah Storm was the top finishing East Ridge girls skier, claiming 51st in a time of 44:35, while Katherine Argo came in 62nd in 51:09.

Woodbury took sixth in the girls team standings with 295 points, while East Ridge placed 12th with 89 points.

State Nordic Ski Meet

The 2010 State Nordic Ski Meet is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Giant's Ridge Ski Area in Biwabik. The boys five-kilometer freestyle race is slated to start at 10 a.m., with the boys 5K classical commencing at 1:30 p.m.
