An early 1-0 lead was not enough for the South Washington County girls hockey team against Mounds View as the Mustangs rebounded from their early deficit to top the Royal Raptors, 5-3, at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

Jess Krinke put SWC up 1-0 just 2:08 into the game with a goal assisted by Sydney Falconer, but Mounds View would take the lead for good with two quick goals at 10:26 and 12:14 of the opening frame to take a 2-1 advantage heading into the first intermission.

The Mustangs scored again at 2:01 of the middle frame to increase their lead to two goals before the first of Emily Moris' two scores (the first assisted by Alexa Jacobsen, the second by Sam Greeley) cut the count to 3-2.

Mounds View and SWC would exchange goals in the waning minutes of the period before concluding the stanza with the hosts up 4-3.

The Mustangs put the game away at the 4:16 mark of the third period and fired 37 shots in all on Katie Ahmann in the Royal Raptors' net.

South Washington County could only muster 16 shots in all for the game and dropped to 4-3-1 with the defeat.

The Woodbury-East Ridge conglomerate returns to the Bielenberg Sports Center for two home games before Christmas. SWC hosts 15th-ranked Hastings on Friday night, then welcomes second-ranked Stillwater to south Woodbury next Monday.
