The South Washington County girls hockey team incurred its first loss of the season Tuesday night as host White Bear Lake handed the Royal Raptors a 5-1 defeat in the Suburban East Conference opener.

White Bear Lake scored the first two goals of the game before sophomore forward Rachel Letsche logged the lone tally of the contest for the visitors on the power play at 12:53.

Following a scoreless second period, the Bears all-but put the game away by scoring just 10 seconds into the third frame to take a 3-1 lead. White Bear pushed that advantage to 4-1 five minutes later, then added one more score late to bring the count to its would-be final.

Freshman goaltender Katie Ahmann made 29 saves in the loss as her teammates placed 16 shots on the Bears' net.

The setback dropped the Royal Raptors to 1-1 on the season as the club prepares to travel to Robbinsdale Cooper for the second game of a home-and-home series on Friday. SWC topped the Hawks, 9-0, in the season opener at the Bielenberg Sports Center last Saturday.

The Royal Raptors take on district rival Park in the Cottage Grove Ice Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
