East Ridge track: Raptors Girls second at Suburban East Conference meet

The fleet-footed East Ridge girls turned in another strong performance last week at the Suburban East Conference track and field meet.

The Raptors’ girls finished second in the meet, held Thursday, May 22, at East Ridge. The meet comprised all 10 teams in the SEC. East Ridge’s boys team finished in seventh place.

East Ridge finished one-two in the 300-meter hurdles, with senior Sandra Gramer winning the event and sophomore Karina Joiner finishing second.

Junior Brenley Goertzen won the girls 800-meter run comfortably, finishing more than four seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Emily Bunnell, an East Ridge freshman, finished third in the event.

The East Ridge 4x400 team comprised of Kiera Joiner, Goertzen, Katie Marcus and Gramer took first.

In the long jump, eighth-grader Allyson Weiss took first for East Ridge. She also won the triple jump event.

Other strong finishers included East Ridge’s 4x800 relay team of Emily Betz, Jessica Gohmann, Emily Bunnell and Gramer. The team finished second in the event behind White Bear Lake. After finishing first in the preliminary heat, sophomore Karina Joiner finished second in the 100-meter hurdles finals behind Mounds View’s Olivia Fixsen.

East Ridge distance standout Bailey Ness finished third in the 1600-meter run. In the 4x100 relay, the Raptors team of Reme Abulu, Jaden Vogelgesang, Jordan Weiss and Raven Tittle finished third. Betz claimed third in the 3200-meter run.

On the boys side, senior Augie Ollrich won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.44 – more than a second ahead of the second-place finisher.

Strong finishers on the boys side included the 4x200 relay team of Alex Johnson, Allan Ndovu, Brad Simonson and Augie Ollrich, which finished third in the event.

East Ridge’s 4x400 relay team comprised of Ndovu, Marcus Haskins, Simonson and Ollrich took second behind Hastings.

The Raptors will compete on Thursday in the Section 4AA track meet at Stillwater.
