East Ridge girls hockey: Raptors skate to tie with Hastings

The East Ridge girls hockey team used a third-period rally to end in a 3-3 tie against Suburban East Conference rival Hastings on Thursday, Dec. 20, playing on Hastings' home ice.

In a penalty-laden game, neither team was able to find its offensive rhythm long enough to build a sustainable lead, and though the game saw a total of 13 minor penalties, only East Ridge (4-7-1; 4-3-1 SEC) was able to capitalize on a power play.

The Raptors were able to score first during the opening period with three minutes left when Brooklyn Pierre found the back of the net from an assist by Katherine Scheibner.

Hastings, which is ranked 18th in Class AA, took control in the second period, however, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes and defending all eight East Ridge shots on goal.

During a sloppy third period in which Hastings (7-1-4; 4-1-3 SEC) was penalized six times, East Ridge was able to score early, making it 3-2 just two minutes into the third and then scoring the equalizer three minutes later.

Cara Kaufer scored on a power play with an assist from Katelyn Bergloff following a slashing minor by a Hastings defender, and Jaedyn Walz tied the game and ended all scoring of the contest five minutes into the third period from an assist by Anya Hafiz.

The Raptors were unable to put it in during the extra time, giving the team its first tie of the season. East Ridge outshot Hastings 27-22 in the game.

The Raptors competed in the Burnsville Ice Garden Tournament, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, East Ridge is back at it in the SEC when it hosts 20th-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall at Bielenberg on Jan. 4.
