East Ridge girls hockey: Surging Raptors edge rival Park

The East Ridge girls hockey team defeated rival Park 4-3 in overtime last week.

After losing their first three games of the year a combined 19-0, the East Ridge girls hockey team has put together a string of good games, capped by its most recent triumph - a 4-3 overtime win over Suburban East Conference and intra-district rival Park on Tuesday.

In its two games over the past week, East Ridge (2-6; 2-2 SEC) beat Park on Tuesday in Cottage Grove, but fell to 10th-ranked Mounds View at home on Saturday.

East Ridge used a terrific first period and a quick overtime goal to defeat the Wolfpack (2-5-1; 0-3-1 SEC) at Cottage Grove Ice Arena on Tuesday.

Jessie Anderson scored the first of three first period goals for the Raptors just one minute into the game from an assist by Braeden Yeo. Seven minutes later, Jaedyn Walz gave East Ridge a 2-0 with an assist from Anya Hafiz. Walz scored again in the 12th minute of the game to give the Raptors a 3-0 advantage. Jessica Hammer and Megan Berg each had an assist on the goal.

The second and third periods were all Park, however. The Wolfpack scored twice in the second period and scored the equalizer in the fourth minute of the third period that forced overtime.

In the second period of overtime, though, East Ridge's Brooklyn Pierre scored the game-winner off an assist from Hammer.

Goalie Katie Ahmann recorded 18 saves on 21 shots on goal for the Raptors.

The Raptors followed up the big win with a 7-1 home loss to Mounds View at Bielenberg Sports Complex on Saturday. Mounds View stayed perfect (7-0; 3-0 SEC) on the year with the win.

East Ridge took on Forest Lake (2-3-2; 0-3-1 SEC) on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to press.

Next up for the Raptors is another Suburban East Conference grudge match against rival Woodbury (1-5-1; 0-3-1 SEC) at Bielenberg on Friday at 7:30 pm.
