Lindsey Vonn coming to Afton Alps on Friday

Olympic champion and Minnesota native Lindsey Vonn will return to the hills of her youth Friday in Washington County.

Vonn, the lone American woman to win Olympic gold in the downhill event, will have a meet-and-greet event at 6 p.m. Friday at Afton Alps Ski Area.

According to a news release, Vonn will meet with 50 young alpine racers at 5 p.m. and hold a public event at 6 p.m., where she will speak to fans and sign autographs.

The event, which promotes Afton Alps’ new Epic ski pass system, coincides with the ski area’s fall fair and swap.

“It’s always a treat to return to my roots in Minnesota and meet my youngest fans who remind me so much of myself when I was just starting out,” Vonn said in the release. “I’m thrilled that Afton Alps is now part of the Vail Resorts family and can’t wait for skiers here to experience all that the Epic program has to offer at its resorts around the world. It’s truly a resort where epic begins.”
