Woodbury softball: Wins over Cretin-Derham Hall and Eastview keeps Royals undefeated

The Woodbury softball team continued to get contributions from a number of players as it remained undefeated with a pair of wins last week.

Woodbury, which is now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Suburban East Conference, beat SEC foe Cretin-Derham Hall 8-5 on Monday, April 14, at home before taking down non-conference opponent Eastview 2-1 this past Saturday in Woodbury.

Woodbury freshman pitcher Ashley Mickschl scattered seven hits with seven strikeouts and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the win over Cretin-Derham Hall (1-4; 1-4 SEC). At the plate, Woodbury senior captain Jordyn Yourczek was 3-for-4 with an RBI and junior Madison Yochum went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Also, sophomore Alexis Jacobs went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On Saturday, Woodbury pitcher Caitlin Balsimo stole the show as the Royals took down a very good Eastview team.

Balsimo, a senior, threw a complete game for her second win of the year and hit a 2-run home run in the fourth inning to lift the Royals to the win over the Lightning (1-2). Balsimo was 2-for-3 in the game.

Weather permitting, Woodbury was set to head to Stillwater (3-3; 3-3 SEC) on Monday, April 21, after the Bulletin went to press. Next, the Royals are scheduled to play at home against SEC-leading Hastings (5-0; 5-0 SEC) on Wednesday.
