Woodbury boys track & field: Royals’ Lawal, Bunch lead way at St. Thomas

The Woodbury boys track and field team started the 2014 season with a dual meet against St. Thomas Academy at St. Thomas Academy on Thursday, April 10.

St. Thomas topped Woodbury 80-66 in the meet.

Oladipupo Lawal earned first place in three events for Woodbury – the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump.

Lawal, a senior captain, ran the 110 hurdles in 15.0 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 42.21 seconds and had a mark of 40 feet, 2.25 inches in the triple jump.

Fellow senior captain Steve Bunch won both the throwing events. Bunch earned first place in the shot put with a mark of 42 feet, 7.75 inches and took the top spot in the discus toss with a throw of 126 feet, 11 inches.

Freshmen Patrick Hintz and Joseph Romain and senior Cole Davis also each won events at the meet. Hintz won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.37 seconds. Romain won the 3200-meter run in 11:18 and Davis won the pole vault, clearing 9 feet. The Royals also won the 3200-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay at the meet.

Weather permitting, Woodbury was set to compete in a five-team meet at Farmington High School on Tuesday, April 15, after the Bulletin went to print.

Next, the Royals are scheduled to compete in an invitational at Eagan High School on Tuesday, April 22.
