Math and Science Academy track & field: Dragons girls fifth, boys seventh at Cannon Falls invite

The Math and Science Academy girls track and field team took fifth place and the Dragons boys placed seventh in the nine-team Cannon Falls Invitational on Saturday, April 12, at Cannon Falls High School.

The MSA girls scored 47 points in the meet. The Dragons boys scored 27 points. West Lutheran won the boys side of the meet with 195 points. Belle Plaine-Holy Family won the girls meet with 255 points.

The Math and Science girls proved to be strong in the distance events. MSA freshman Ellie Haland and junior Greta Siekmeier placed second and third, respectively, in the 3200-meter run. Haland had a time of 12 minutes, 46.21 seconds. Siekmeier finished in 12:48.91. Siekmeier also placed third in the 1600-meter run in a time of 5:51.67. Freshman Julia Clark placed eighth in the 1600, too, in 6:22.01.

In addition, MSA junior Libby Ames earned fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 9 inches and junior Katelyn Schroeder finished in seventh place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.73 seconds. Also, sophomore Tessa Johnson placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:17.03 and fellow sophomore Courtney Hayashi was eighth in the 800-meter run in 3:01.41.

The Math and Science boys scored high in the 800-meter run. MSA junior Noah Stout and senior Shawn Ramberg placed second and third in the 800. Stout had a time of 2:09.54 and Ramberg finished in 2:11.46.

Also, MSA junior Bobby Nelson took third place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:04.81 and sophomore Ty Kroells placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 59.08.
