Woodbury girls basketball: Royals’ losing streak hits 11

The Woodbury girls basketball team lost its 11th straight game, falling to Hastings 50-48 on the road in the Suburban East Conference on Friday, Jan. 31.

Woodbury’s last win was on Dec. 20 at home against Hastings. That time around, the Royals (5-12; 2-9 SEC) beat the Raiders by 40 points.

However, in the rematch, Hastings (2-13; 1-10 SEC) opened up a 28-22 halftime lead, then held off the Royals to win by two points.

Junior guard Kayla Bilski led Woodbury with a team-high 18 points and freshman forward Cecile Kieger added 11 points.

Hanna Norman led Hastings with a game-high 19 points.

Woodbury’s loss to the Raiders came on the heels of a 58-41 loss at Mounds View on Jan. 28.

Mounds View (7-11; 2-9 SEC) outscored Woodbury 25-14 in the first half and 33-27 in the second half for the win.

Bilski netted 12 points and Kieger had eight points in the loss.

Three players scored in double figures for the Mustangs.

Woodbury looks to stop its skid with a non-conference home game on Wednesday, Feb. 5, against Henry Sibley (3-14; 1-7 Classic Suburban). After that, the Royals welcome rival East Ridge (12-4; 6-4 SEC) to Woodbury High School on Friday. The Raptors beat the Royals 59-37 earlier this season.
