East Ridge dance team: Raptors kick way to third place

The upstart East Ridge High School dance team took home third place honors in the High Kick competition of the Suburban East Conference Championship and fifth place in the Jazz/Funk segment on Jan. 13 in Roseville.

“We are thrilled with the third-place finish in Kick,” East Ridge co-head coach Ashley Stoffel said. “With the pressure of the conference championship the girls turned in their best performance of the year.”

East Ridge was competing in just its second conference championship in school history.

The East Ridge dance team’s goal is to promote school spirit and involvement, teamwork, dedication, strong work ethic, a competitive drive and respect.

“This is a wonderful step forward for our program,” said co-head coach Melissa Vogler. “We are competing against school dance programs that have been established and well-funded for a long time.”

In route to third-place honors East Ridge’s Kathryn Wamstad and Meghan Hickey were named All-Conference and Natalie Nelson received an Honorable Mention.

Up next for the East Ridge dance team will be the Simley High School Dance Team Invitational at Simley on Saturday, Jan. 25.
