Woodbury girls basketball: Royals' losing streak hits five straight games

The Woodbury girls basketball team’s losing streak hit five games with back-to-back Suburban East Conference losses to White Bear Lake and Cretin-Derham Hall.

Woodbury (5-6; 2-3 SEC) fell 52-49 to White Bear Lake at home on Wednesday, Jan. 8, then lost 57-45 to Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul on Friday, Jan. 10.

Against Forest Lake, Woodbury came back from a 14-point halftime deficit, but fell three points shy of the Rangers (9-3; 5-0 SEC).

Woodbury outscored Forest Lake 30-19 in the second half, but it was too little, too late for the Royals.

Three players scored in double figures in the game for Woodbury. Senior guard Kalley Hakes led the way with a team-high 13 points. Junior guard Madi Yochum scored 12 points and junior guard Kayla Bilski netted 11 points as well.

Cretin-Derham Hall (7-5; 3-2 SEC) turned the tables on Woodbury in their game, outscoring the Royals 31-16 in the second half to erase a 3-point halftime deficit.

Hakes had a team-high 15 points in the loss. Bilski scored 14 points and Yochum chipped in 11 points.

Woodbury played host to Roseville (10-2; 2-2 SEC) on Tuesday after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Royals welcome rival White Bear Lake (12-0; 4-0 SEC) to Woodbury on Friday.
