Volleyball: Raptors beat Royals in regular season finale, learn playoff fates

It was a big week for the East Ridge and Woodbury volleyball teams.

East Ridge beat Woodbury 3-0 on Oct. 22 at East Ridge High School in what was the regular season finale and the first match-up of the year between the two District 833 and Suburban East Conference rivals. The Raptors topped Woodbury 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 in straight sets for the win. Individual statistics from the match were not made available.

East Ridge and Woodbury also learned their playoff fortunes last week.

East Ridge (18-10; 5-4 SEC) earned the fifth seed in Section 4AAA, while Woodbury (10-13; 2-6 SEC) was seeded eighth.

The Raptors played host to 12th seed Minneapolis South (3-22) on Oct. 22, while the Royals welcomed ninth seed Mahtomedi (9-8) to Woodbury High School on Oct. 22 in the first round. Both games were played after the Bulletin went to press.

A win would send East Ridge to No. 4 seed Stillwater (11-14; 4-3 SEC) on Thursday, Oct. 24, for a repeat of last year’s playoff game. With a win over the Zephyrs, Woodbury would travel to top-seeded North St. Paul (19-7) on Thursday.
