New Life Academy boys basketball: Eagles start season 1-1

The New Life Academy boys basketball team opened the year with a split. 

The Eagles (1-1) beat St. Anthony Village 65-44 on Nov. 26 on the heels of a 79-56 loss to St. Paul Academy in the season opener on Nov. 22. 

In the win over St. Anthony Village, New Life Academy opened up a 31-19 first-half lead then coasted to victory. 

Four different players scored in double figures for the Eagles in the win. Conrad Engstrom led the way for New Life with 19 points and six rebounds. Sam Nelson scored 13 points and had three assists, Sam Horner had 11 points and four steals and Mark Schreiner added 10 points and six rebounds.

Four different players scored in double figures for SPA in its win over the Eagles. SPA took a 33-25 first-half lead, then exploded for 46 second-half points in the victory. 

Engstrom had a team-high 16 points and five rebounds and Horner had 13 points and four steals in the loss. 

Next, NLA takes on St. Paul Humboldt on the road Thursday.
