Seedings, sites announced for State soccer tourneys
Seedings were announced for the Class A and AA State Soccer Tournament on Sunday morning, with all three local teams earning justified positioning.
The Woodbury girls soccer team, unbeaten since late 2007, were a lock to earn the No. 1 seed in Class AA with a 19-0-1 record thus far. The Royals will play Lakeville North (12-5-3) this week in a 7:30 p.m. match on Thursday at Wolfpack Stadium in Cottage Grove.
The Royals boys team, also unbeaten on the regular season at 15-0-3, snared the No. 2 seed in their State bracket. Woodbury was ranked No. 2 most of the season behind autumn-long No. 1 Apple Valley, the only other unbeaten team in Class AA (21-0). WHS plays 11-7 Champlin Park at Wolfpack Stadium this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The East Ridge girls vaulted from a No. 5 sectional seed to a No. 3 State seed after defeating the third-ranked team in Class A -- Mahtomedi -- en route to the 4A championship. The Raptors (13-6-1) play Cloquet (18-3-1) in the state quarterfinal this week -- and after having to suffer through three games on swampy grass fields, East Ridge is back on fieldturf at Roseville High School in a 5:30 p.m. match this coming Thursday.
