Noelle Arcand's header off a Bianca Diaz corner kick with 12 seconds remaining vaulted East Ridge into the Section 4A girls soccer final with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over defending State champion Mahtomedi.

"I just saw the ball and wasn't going to let them have it," Arcand said.

The freshman forward's goal came after sophomore Anna Solheim coaxed a goal home just inside the endline in the 78th minute to knot the score at 1-1.

Mahtomedi had taken the early lead in the 18th minute and held on the advantage despite several golden opportunities on the part of visiting East Ridge until the late rally finished the top-seeded Zephyrs season in sudden and stunning style.

The Raptors, seeded fifth in the section, now advance to play in the sectional championship game at either No. 3 seed Simley on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., with a trip to the State Class A Tournament hanging in the balance. Simley defeated No. 2 seed St. Croix Lutheran, 3-0, on Thursday night to advance to the final. The Spartans defeated East Ridge, 1-0, in the second game of the year on Aug. 31.
