JR Raptors cheer team
The Junior Raptor Elementary Cheer Team is a competitive cheer team open to third through fifth graders who are interested in trying out the competitive side of cheer. The team will begin weekly practices in August, culminating in a competitive performance at the East Ridge Extreme Cheer Challenge on Oct. 14. Raptor cheer head coach Sara Mercado, along with the nationally ranked East Ridge competitive cheer teams, will teach stunts, tumbling, dance, jumps and cheer so participants are ready to perform. The team is for third through fifth graders, and practices will be held at East Ridge High School on Saturdays from Aug. 12 through the competition on Oct. 14. Woodbury Parks and Recreation is holding a kid friendly duathlon at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 22 at Ojibway Park. The duathlon, which is for kids ages 6 through 12, is $25 per participant. Youth will bike two miles and run approximately one mile along the trails of Ojibway Park. A T-shirt, beverage and breakfast snacks will be provided at the finish line. All participants must bring their own bike, wear athletic shoes and a well-fitting bike helmet. A summer basketball camp hosted by the Timberwolves and Lynx Academy will be held July 31 and Aug. 1 at East Ridge High School. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for grades 1-4 and 1-4 p.m. for grades 5-8. The camp will cost $99 for boys and girls participants, and you are asked to bring a ball. Each participant will receive elite instruction, a Wolves ball, Lynx and Wolves ticket vouchers, a poster, and exclusive Wolves and Lynx prizes. The Park High School 11th annual Hall of Fame golf fundraiser will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, at River Oaks Golf Course. The scramble tournament will be a shotgun start commencing at 1 p.m., rain or shine. There is a $90 entry fee per player which includes golf, power cart, prizes and dinner. The dinner and awards will follow the golf tournament in the River Oaks Banquet Room.
