Girls' Hockey: East Ridge winning streak comes to an end
A five-game winning streak for the East Ridge girls’ hockey team came crashing down with a 4-0 loss to White Bear Lake Jan. 17.
East Ridge outshot White Bear Lake 34-21, but Bears goaltender Calla Frank stopped all 34 shots in the Suburban East Conference game.
“We played a decent first period, and we just kind of ran out of gas, I feel like, mentally,” head coach Tom Kulenkamp said. “We also ran into a hot goalie. Their goalie played well. We hit a couple of posts. Not a good recipe for trying to win on the road.”
White Bear Lake led 1-0 after the first period but broke the game open with two goals in the second. Claudia Verkerke scored twice in the second and third period to lead the Raptors.
It was East Ridge’s only game of the week, so the players headed back to the practice ice the rest of the week to work on some of the lessons learned from the loss.
“You can’t give up four (goals) this time of year,” Kulenkamp said. “That hasn’t been like us. That’s something that we’ve been working on in this week of practice.”
East Ridge is scheduled to play home games this week Wednesday against Forest Lake and Saturday against Park.
