East Ridge boys hockey: Raptors skate past Park

East Ridge beat rival Park 4-2 on Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

East Ridge used a two-goal third period to hold off district rival Park Thursday for a 4-2 victory at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

The Raptors (8-8-2, 4-5-2 SEC) got goals from Derek Hammer and Nick Leach to defeat the Wolfpack for the second time this season and win the season series.

Ryan McDonough and Luke Ringhofer added goals for East Ridge, which went 2-for-4 on the power play. Leach's goal came four seconds after Park had finished serving a penalty.

McDonough gave the Raptors a 1-0 lead at 6 minutes, 43 seconds of the first period on an assist from Jacob Nickoloff and Hammer. East Ridge fired 13 shots on goal in the first period and had momentum early.

The Wolfpack grabbed that momentum back in the second period and took a 2-1 lead at the 7:13 mark after Alex Kiesla's goal. Chris Peterson tied the game at the 5:04 mark with a goal on a feed from Cody Newton.

East Ridge fought back though and got a power-play goal from Ringhofer to tie the game. The pivotal goal kept the Raptors in it despite Park putting together a strong period.

East Ridge's penalty kill kept the Wolfpack scoreless on five chances.

Tyler Guck made 28 saves in goal for the Raptors, who beat Park 5-2 earlier in the season.

Jack Greeley and Nickoloff each had two assists while Hammer and Leach each had a goal and an assist.

The victory extended East Ridge's winning streak to three games after the Raptors knocked off St. Michael-Albertville 5-2 Tuesday in Albertville.

Prior to the win over Park, five different players recorded a goal for East Ridge Tuesday in a 5-2 victory over St. Michael-Albertville in Albertville.

Nickoloff, Hammer, Steven Fronek, Jack Dwyer and Brady Hanson each had a goal for the Raptors who picked up their second consecutive victory.

Hanson, Dwyer and Fronek each had a goal in the second period to give East Ridge a 3-0 lead. The Raptors outshot the Knights 12-7 in the period and 38-23 for the game.

The Raptors gave up a power-play goal at 3:17 of the third period to David Anderson, which made it 3-1 momentarily.

Hammer and Nickoloff scored 33 seconds apart to build a 5-1 lead. St. Michael-Albertville added a power-play goal at 14:33 to make it 5-2.

The Knights converted twice on the power play and East Ridge finished 0-for-1 on the man advantage.

Nicholas Maki made 21 saves in goal for the victory.

White Bear Lake shuts out East Ridge

White Bear Lake picked up its second consecutive victory with a 5-0 win over East Ridge Saturday in White Bear Lake.

The Bears got goals from Wyatt Newpower, Tommy Giller, Seth King, Brady Anderson and Thomas Delaney to snap the Raptors' three-game winning streak.

Delaney and Giller had power-play goals for White Bear Lake, which finished 2-for-6 on the power play. The Bears outshot the Raptors 25-22 for the game.

Tyler Guck had 20 saves in goal for East Ridge.

The Raptors went 0-for-5 on the power play and fell behind 4-0 after the second period.

East Ridge plays Cretin-Derham Hall Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena and Hastings Saturday in Cottage Grove.
