Math and Science Academy track & field: Six Dragons qualify for Section 4A meet

The Math and Science Academy track & field boys 3200-meter relay team headlined the six Dragons athletes to qualify for the Section 4A Championship meet out of the Section 4A Subsection meet last Thursday at St. Croix Lutheran.

The Dragons 3200-meter relay team of Noah Stout, Brady Hannula, Shawn Ramberg and Jacob Siekmeier set a new school record time of 8 minutes, 39.39 seconds in winning the event at the subsection meet. The same foursome also finished in third place in the 1600-meter relay to reach the section meet in that event. In addition, Siekmeier - a junior - won the 3200-meter race at the subsection meet, with a time of 10:18.77. For the Dragons girls, Greta Siekmeier took third place in the 3200-meter run to earn a trip to the section meet with a time of 12:20.66 and Ellie Haland qualified in the 3200 as well with a sixth-place time of 12:47.24.

"The teams competed well at the section meet and had some strong performances by both our veteran athletes and younger athletes," MSA head coach Cami Paulson said. "The athletes that qualified for the section meet worked hard all season for the opportunity to earn a spot at the section meet and they are excited for the opportunity to compete for a spot at the state meet."

Overall, the MSA boys placed seventh out of 10 teams with 35 points and the Dragons girls took eight place with 25 points out of nine teams. The Section 4A Championship meet is June 2 at Macalester College in St. Paul.
