LETTER: Gun owners and the public support legislation meant to reduce violence
We are grateful to Tom Hammond for speaking out on gun violence in his letter to editor in the July 6 Woodbury Bulletin. We are also concerned about the safety of family and friends and about what gun violence is doing to our society.
A majority of the American public and gun owners support doing something now.
We need to come together and enact state and federal legislation that enforces universal background checks, prohibits terrorists, domestic abusers and other violent criminals and the severely mentally ill from buying guns. We need a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons and we must allow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to study public health issues surrounding gun violence.
Mr. Hammond's question to Minnesota state Rep. Kelly Fenton is straightforward and we want to add our voices. Rep. Fenton, what have you done to support common-sense legislation to protect the citizens of Woodbury and Minnesota from gun violence?
